A metropolitan research university had been working for some time to deploy ServiceNow as its enterprise service management platform. Earlier efforts had encountered difficulty at the integration and change management phases, leaving the institution with accumulated investment to protect and a service desk running on ageing tooling that was creating operational exposure. The University Council set a firm twelve-month deadline to bring the programme to a stable, adopted go-live.
Precision Consulting was engaged to lead a structured recovery. The first thirty days were dedicated to diagnosis, establishing why earlier efforts had stalled. The central factor was governance rather than technology: the programme had lacked a single accountable change owner with authority to enable adoption across competing faculties and professional services divisions. Precision Consulting established a Programme Board with binding authority, appointed faculty-level change leads across the academic divisions, and redesigned the implementation scope to deliver in three incremental tranches rather than a single high-risk cutover. The integration with the university’s identity management and finance systems was rearchitected using a decoupled API layer, removing the tight coupling that had constrained earlier progress. Go-live was achieved on the final tranche, eleven months into the engagement, with strong staff adoption within the first sixty days.
